At Metal Mafia, we hold ourselves to a high standard, not just in terms of the quality of our jewelry, but in the way we do everything–from answering phone calls from you with a knowledgeable caring sales rep, to shipping orders the same day they come in, to making sure our staff goes home on time to help with their children’s homework or pursue their personal interests. Everyone on our team is responsible not just for getting you what you need, but for literally making the world a better place. That may sound like some kind of bullshit, but it is honestly something that every staff member works on. So when our warehouse team came to us and suggested that we should find a way to do better in terms of climate change and saving the environment, we decided to take up the challenge as a team. The most obvious place for change was in the packaging we use. All those little baggies that help keep your jewelry neatly organized used to be polybags that had no life after they shipped out to you. We thought about all that plastic, and like you, we heard about the fact that 14 million tons of plastic per year wind up in our oceans and wreak havoc on marine life and other ecosystems. So we decided to change all those bags over to biodegradable bags instead. 60% of our stock is now in fully biodegradable packaging, and by sourcing new brown paper and recycled materials the end of 2023, 100% of our stock will come in biodegradable bags.

Once we put that change in motion, a member of our order fulfillment team took on the task to pack your order in, and to eliminate all the plastic bubble paper, mailers, and other destructive packaging that we had previously used. Now, your jewelry ships as safely as ever, but in materials that you can easily recycle with your local trash collection company.
You probably noticed that we have always tried to re-use boxes wherever possible, but we were surprised to learn that any box with vinyl tape on it cannot be recycled! Over the last month, you may have seen our new “green” tape, which, because it is made of reinforced paper, is both more sturdy, and also 100% recyclable. By using that on our boxes, the whole carton becomes recyclable at the local recycling center!
However, when we spent time researching other ways to reduce our environmental impact, what became clear was that the best way to save the environment is really to reduce the amount of things we use to begin with. For that reason, we’ll be printing invoices on double-sided paper from now on, so we use less paper and thus, protect some of the precious trees that help the world to breathe better.
Each time you buy jewelry or supplies from any manufacturer, your purchase should align with the values you hold dear. - Take a look around your shop and see what you use a lot of, and then imagine what change might help you to use less.
